Pythagoras
Subject Area
Objective |
Mathematics
1. TLW use geometric concepts and properties of two dimensional shapes to solve problems in the field of architecture.
2. TLW use picture models to demonstrate the Pythagorean Theorem. 3. TLW identify appropriate contextual situations for the Pythagorean Theorem to solve real life problems. 4. TLW select tools such as real objects, manipulatives, paper/pencil, and technology or techniques to solve problems. 5. TLW communicate mathematical ideas using language efficient tools, graphical, numerical, algebraic mathematical models. |
World History
1. TLW establish a clear understanding of the history of the life of Pythagoras.
2. TLW show proficiency knowledge of the origins and time period where the Pythagorean Theorem was produced. 3. TLW will create a visual of the time period and teachings of Pythagoras. 4. TLW apply his/her understanding of the Pythagorean philosophy and Pythagoras’ life to investigative inquiry activity. 5. TLW demonstrates a synthesis of the historical value of Pythagoras through an electronic presentation. |
Technology
1. TLW determine and employ methods to evaluate the electronic information for accuracy and validity. 2. TLW demonstrate the ability to identify the source, location, media type, relevancy, and content validity of available information. 3. TLW plan, create, and edit documents created with a word processor using readable fonts, alignment, page setup, and tabs. 4. TLW demonstrate proficiency in the use of multimedia authoring programs by creating linear or non-linear projects incorporating text, audio, video, and graphics. 5. TLW resolve information conflicts and validate information through research and comparison of data. 6. TLW design and create interdisciplinary multimedia presentations for defined audiences including audio, video, text, and graphics. |

Assessments
|
Each group must create a PowerPoint presentation explaining the life of Pythagoras his theories. The power point should contain at least two problems using Pythagorean Theorem and how to solve them (without calculator aid). Students should incorporate at least one of the flash card problems into presentation problems (Rubric).
